I’ve often been asked about what really works with clients.  After a long discussion about things like: 

1. The necessary and sufficient conditions of therapy (i.e. Truax & Carkhuff and Rogers), and 

2. Therapy is a way of being, and 

3. “It’s the relationship that heals” (which I originally gathered from my college professor, Fred Moore, and then in written form from Yalom)

I finally get to something very simple: I see the client as who they really are.  

That is: bigger, more powerful and healthier than they see themselves.  When I hold the space for that, the client can become it.
